Today, the co-op has 16,892 registered members, who are draw from 12 wet mills that are part of the Society: The society has 137 staff members, 31 of whom are women. The Kariru factory opened in 1986 and uses fresh river water for processing. It has also implemented a water recycling system that enables it to re-use the same water, which has drastically reduced the factory’s water consumption. After being washed in river water, coffees are dried in the sun on raised beds. Approximately 1,500 smallholder farmers contributed to this microlot.
